The Taming of the Shrew
Date
July 2025
Location
Arachne Theatre at Caveat NYC
This one-hour, sitcom-style staging of Shakespeare's controversial comedy was presented as part of Arachne Theatre's summer season at Caveat NYC. This production leaned into the dark aspects of the central storyline, contrasting the gradual defeat of a women's spirit to resist with an upbeat tone and soundscape, including an inescapable laugh track. The final moments of the show are depicted as a loss for both Katherina and her husband, as he comes to realize a quietly submissive woman was never what he truly wanted, leaving both of them at a loss brought on by the way patriarchy forces both men and women to reshape themselves.
